The Conundrum Strikes!

Dale Earnhardt Jr. got tied up in a wreck while practicing Wednesday afternoon. Here's the video:

Junior is now relegated to starting at the back of the pack...

If he wins from the last starting position on Sunday will the conspiracy theorists still say it was a set up?

  1. Sucks for Dale Jr! VERY rarely do you see someone win from the pole at Daytona. If he does win, it comes with a caveat.

    Good stuff!

  2. I got told by a Jr fan that it still counts as starting from the pole even though he isn't....I got crosseyed trying to figure that out so I just agreed, lol

  3. Watching a replay of the practice and what these guys are working on. McMurray is breaking the ideal draft by sticking his nose off to the high side to grab a gulp of clean air and by doing this he was able to push Kyle for 10 laps before they had to switch. The problem? Wednesday was a cool, overcast day.

Junior was very unhappy with the slower drivers who he claimed cut off he and JJ as they quickly closed. He went on to say that he didn't want to be out on the track practicing anyway. Said he had a bad feeling going in...

So jon... Now you figure they intentionally sent Jr. to the back so he had, according to the odds, a better chance of winning? I know what you're saying, I'm just playing the anti-conspiracy theorist...

tez, didn't your mom tell you about going crosseyed? LOL Dale still gets credit for the pole he just won't be there to enjoy it... Another thing that came out of this surprised me. I would have thought Jeff Gordon would take the pole starting position since he earned the number 2 starting position. They're saying the third starting qualifier will actually move forward and assume the pole so the races tomorrow will in a round about way determine who'll sit on the pole!

  4. Well the Gatorade qualifying runs were more of the same with one driver blowing an engine... More wrecks due to driver miscalculations...

These guys are having to totally concentrate on what they're doing and still circumstances are adding up to bad things and these are short runs. What's going to happen when these guys have to pay such attention for 500 miles?

Who's going to be left standing?

  5. Those RCR Chevys looked strong in the Duels today. Mikey and Kyle's Toyotas couldn't even make a move on them on the last lap.

It still looks like it will be a wreckfest come Sunday. The closing speeds are too unfamiliar for the drivers right now.

  6. Gene, I think it's "advantage teammates" concerning radio frequencies. The non-teammates are having to talk through their spotters while the RCR drivers have direct, same radio frequency contact with their teammates. Seems like an unfair advantage but nothing's being said about it...

It was really something watching the two Keselowski boys hook up in the second race today. Brad pushed his older brother (and his dad the car owner) into a 500 start. An on pit road announcer stopped and interviewed the old man during the run and he was getting pretty worked up! He said he was scheduled to actually have his ticker checked at the Mayo Clinic in a few days! Hope he survives this weekend!
